Traditional Bathroom Style

Traditional design is the safest long-term choice a homeowner can make, and that is not a criticism. Trends move quickly in bathrooms, and a room built on classic proportion, quality millwork, and honest materials will still look considered in twenty years, when whatever is currently fashionable will not. It is also the style that sits most comfortably in the older housing stock across Los Angeles.

The vocabulary is familiar and it works. A clawfoot or freestanding tub as the centrepiece. Polished chrome or unlacquered brass fixtures with cross or lever handles. Furniture-style vanities with visible legs, panelled doors, and a stone top. Wainscoting or beadboard to chair-rail height, crown moulding at the ceiling, and classic tile in a hexagon, basketweave, or subway pattern. Detail is the point here rather than something to be minimised.

Traditional work rewards good carpentry and punishes shortcuts, because every mitre and every reveal is on display.
